Sculptor Constantin Brâncuºi, born in the village of Hobiþa in 1876, was the founder of the world famous school of Romanian sculpture. The monumental complex at Târgu Jiu, dedicated to the Romanian heroes in World War I, was inaugurated in 1938 and represents the result of Brâncuºi’s work for more than 20 years. The sculptures making up the complex have been on display in two parks on the left bank of the Jiu River since 1956. The “Table of Silence”, “The Chair Alley” and the “Kiss Gate” can be seen in the Central Park. “The Infinity Column” and “The Table of Silence” are to be found in the Youth Park.
